Invitation | आमंत्रण
Van Vadi is an expression of our connection to nature: to the forests, mountains, streams, and their beings. When we found this place, we felt that magic that we know well as kids... impossible to put in words but you will feel it here... a sense of happiness, abundance, healing, being. We invite you hoping you will see what we see, and experience this magic that has almost disappeared from our everyday existence.
"Imagine waking up to the sounds of nature,
of a mountain stream flowing free.
Views of a lush green valley
that changes colors every season.
Blue mountains snuggling up to each other
while the wistful mist hangs around flirtatiously.
There are dragonflies dancing around
and the skies turn many colours.
When the rain comes down,
it overpowers all your senses.
And when the sun shines,
blue as blue skies emerge.
When the jungle sleeps,
it’s time for the fireflies."
Our Space | आवास
Van Vadi has been designed like a home. We’ve used stone masonry, reclaimed wood, recycled materials in curating a living space that is aesthetically aligned with the natural environment around us in all of its raw, wild and unfinished beauty — yet it offers a very comfortable space for short and long stays.
Beautiful aged artefacts from Himalayan homes, spread around the property add an indescribable charm to our place.
Our Food | आहार
We serve vegetarian food, cooked in our homestyle kitchen, while blending traditional wisdom and locally grown ingredients with modern recipes. You may expect simple, freshly prepared, yet delicious and wholesome food, cooked with love.
While our main course is fixed based on seasonal availability of the ingredients, you can choose to order from an array of lip smacking snacks, soups, salads, and of course, chai for the irresistible mountain cravings.
Our Pahadi Khana — consisting of some super foods from the Himalayas — is quite a hit among our guests to an extent that many of them continue to ask for recipes and ingredients.
Our meals are served at fixed hours in the dining room cum yoga shala. However, if you would like a packed lunch inside a basket for a day out in the sun, we can set you up for a picnic.
Our Surroundings | परिवेश
Van Vadi is located on the outskirts of Dehradun bordering Rishikesh, around 30 minutes from the Jolly Grant Airport, yet tucked away deep in a forest in Thano. In one moment you’re on a regular dusty road, and in a blink you’re transported into an enchanted land in the middle of a forest.
A natural mountain water stream flows at the bottom of the hill, providing perfect background music all day. There are seasonal springs in the monsoons, which turn the hill into a lush green ecosystem. You often hear the sounds of barking deer, and a wide variety of birds.
